Setting 101
Discover the art of route setting in this hands-on introductory clinic designed for everyday climbers.
In this 1-day clinic, you’ll learn the fundamentals of creating movement through hold selection, technical skills, and the basics of forerunning and tweaking.
Session 1: July 24th
Session 2: July 25th
This is a 1-day clinic. Prerequisites: 1 year of climbing.
Must be able to move and ascend an A-frame ladder with tools. Must be able to forerun. No setting experience needed.
Creating Classics
This 2-day workshop is for beginner/intermediate setters looking to understand what makes climbs classic and how to create them in the gym. We'll deep-dive into creating more advanced climbing positions and techniques, hold types and their relation to movement, and utilizing larger 3D shapes to alter the terrain.
July 31st - August 1st
August 7th - 8th
This is a 2-day clinic. Prerequisites: Setting 101 and/or 2 years of climbing experience. Some route-setting experience is recommended. Must be able to move and ascend an A-frame ladder with tools. Must be able to forerun up to V4.
Modern Movement
Designed as an introduction to creating "modern" climbing styles that are seen in competitions, this 2-day course is for Intermediate/Advanced setters. Expect to focus on hand-foot coordination, subtle balance climbs, and the nuances that create fast and slow moves. Learn how setters think about these movements and tweak them into existence.
August 14th-15th
This is a 2-day clinic. Prerequisites: Creating Classics and/or climbing V5s, at least 2 years of climbing experience, and thick skin (literally and figuratively), as there is a lot of forerunning and it's not easy to set these moves. Must be able to move and ascend an A-frame ladder with tools. Must be able to forerun.
Advanced Route Setting
This 2-day Intermediate/ Advanced setting course focuses on setting climbs that marry skills with strength, testing climbers on a wide variety of climbing techniques. In addition to setting more complex climbs, learn how to forerun, tweak, and better understand how complexity plays a role in the climbing experience.
August 21st - 22nd
This is a 2-day clinic. Prerequisites: Any of our previous setting clinics, climbing V5s, or 2 years of climbing experience. Must be able to move and ascend an A-frame ladder with tools. Must be able to forerun.
